Do You Know New-York City

It is a city that is known all over the world. Over 8 million people are living there, and they are all able to afford their New York lifestyles one way or another. Moving to New York may sound like a great idea, but make sure you do a little bit of research before you decide to uproot your family, and give life in the Big Apple a try. You may be surprised by what you find.

The Mistake

One huge mistake that many people make before they move to a new location is not doing enough research. Can you even afford to live in New York City? Did you ever consider that thought? On television, New York may seem like a great place to live, but have you put all of the expenses associated with the move down on paper, or better yet, have you even looked into the cost of living in New York? If you have not looked into either one of these you may be in for a very big surprise when you move.

Cost of Living

Things in New York City do cost more than other places in the United States. The cost of living is a little higher, and for some, it could be much higher. Simple things like milk and bread will cost quite a bit more in the big city. Can your bank account handle the extra strain? Hopefully you have already given this some serious thought. If you are moving to New York in hopes of saving money, then you may be in for a disappointment. The only thing that you may save money on is gas.

New York City is not that big, and everything is squished into this small space. This makes it easier to get to everything just by walking. Make sure that you have a comfortable pair of walking shoes, and get ready to walk. At least you will be getting plenty of exercise walking everywhere in New York.

Hopefully you are not blindly moving to New York either. If you just rented a moving truck, packed it up, and headed for the Big Apple you may be in trouble when you get there. Small apartments in New York are not cheap, and finding one that is in your budget may be very difficult. Studio apartments can cost as little as $1500 a month, or as much as $3500 a month. It all depends on where you want to live.

The cheaper places to live are in the Downtown area. Midtown, the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side are the more expensive places to live.

If these prices are too high for you and you are single then you can always share an apartment, this  can cut those costs in half.

If you are going to run a business in New York, you may have to face even higher costs to get your business up and running. These are all things that you should have taken into consideration before you moved.
